Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI)

Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI)

Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI), is produced by a 4 steps. reaction based on benzene as feedstock.

There are 3 isomers of Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate:

2, 2-MDI, 2, 4-MDI, and 4, 4-MDI.

The 4, 4 isomer is known as pure. or monomeric MDI (mMDI).The Polymeric Methylene Diphenyl. Diisocyanate so called Crude Methylene Diphenyl .Diisocyanate contains monomeric Methylene .Diphenyl Diisocyanate and products with higher MW (pMDI).

Uses

Methylene .diphenyl .diisocyanate . is used in the production of polyurethanes. for many applications. including the manufacture of rigid polyurethane foams. used for home and refrigerator insulation. Insulation made with Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate. can help consumers conserve energy.

Some additional uses of Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate in polyurethanes include. coatings, adhesives. sealants, and elastomers. (CASE) found in items such as paints, glues. and weather resistant materials.

It is also used to make. many types of footwear. sports and leisure products and to. a much lesser extent. some specialty flexible foams. Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate can also be used. as a binder for wood. and to produce mold cores for the foundry industry.
